Word-Arts Project 2017

VG PlayRoom is the recipient of a 2017 Surrey Cultural Grant.

The WORD-ARTS PROJECT seeks to address the gap we see in identity & representation of Word-Artists in the broader arts context as well as the need for better exposure, shared resources and advocacy.

Partnering with Alexandra Neighbourhood House and advisors Fauzia Rafique, Surrey Muse and author-educator Heidi Greco, we are planning a series of events over the course of a year to:

EXPLORE:             Vital artistic and pragmatic topics and issues.

EDUCATE:            Word-artists in verbal arts and presentation skills.

ENTERTAIN:        Word Arts LIVE author/poet/performer Series

…leading to a larger event to share, celebrate and plan next steps.

We are drawing together an organizing team to devise innovative, topical events with fresh voices leading towards a Word-Arts Collective with a voice to help shape Surrey’s cultural landscape. We aspire to be inclusive and multi : cultural-generational-disciplinary. Please join us.

VG PlayRoom email

VG playroom began an incubator of creativity where word, image, sound and movement artists and public could experiment with ideas and issues just for the fun of it.  In 2015 we opened a Word Studio to develop projects, events and training in the verbal arts and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Located upstairs in Alexandra Hall, Crescent Beach, BC we play in the Metro-Vancouver area, but value global inspiration and relationship.  .
